At the Cosmoscow International Contemporary Art Fair 2019 Ruarts Gallery (booth C-6) will present the oeuvres of Nobuyoshi Araki and Alexander Zakharov.
Alexander Zakharov was born in 1960 in Moscow. Since 1984, Zakharov has participated in exhibitions in Moscow and after moving to New York in the late 80s regularly took part in collective exhibitions representing post-Soviet art. Since then the artist’s solo exhibitions have regularly been held in galleries in the USA, Europe and Asia. Since 1998 Alexander Zakharov has continued his artistic career in Russia, exhibiting works in major museums and galleries of modern art. One of the main themes of the artist’s work is the return to the lost paradise of childhood with its wonderful, almost phantasmagoric landscapes and tiny inhabitants – small pink bears, warlike Barbie dolls, ponies, crocodiles, winged pegasuses etc. Zakharov works in many different techniques including painting, drawing, etchings and lithographs. Nowadays he experiments with lenticular printing, transforming miniature oil paintings into 3D images. Alexander Zakharov's works are often presented at major international fairs and auctions and are acquired by museums and private collections around the world.
Nobuyoshi Araki (born in Tokyo in 1940) is a world famous Japanese photographer. His work is always balancing on the brink between eroticism and pornography, provocation and sincerity, heavenly beauty and hellish visions. In 1970s Araki released at his own expense his first photo albums and began to explore the genre of intimate photography. Despite the scandalous nature of his work, Araki quickly gained recognition in his homeland, awarded of two highest prizes in the field of photography. Most of Araki's works are devoted to the ideas of heaven and hell. The divine gardens in his photographs are often inhabited by toy monsters and dolls tied in traditional Japanese bondage techniques Shibari and Kinbaku. A large number of Araki’s personal exhibitions are held regularly in the USA, Asia and Europe, as well as several hundred books and albums he has published.
