Alexander Zakharov
Alexander Zakharov

Alexander Zakharov was born in Moscow in 1960. 1980 he finished Moscow State Academic School of 1905 Year Memory. 1982 became a member of USSR Artists Union (youth section). In the years relating to “perestroika” he was one of the first artists who anchored in the famous “Furmanny” – the squat situated in Furmanny Lane, where also worked “Mukhomory” art group, Vadim Zakharov, Yuri Albert, Andrei Filippov, “World Champions”. In the end of 1980-s Alexander Zakharov signed a contract with The Stuart Levy Fine Art Gallery in New York. Thus he “made” a name as a successful artist on the tide of global changes and “perestroika” enthusiasm of the foreigners and moved to the US. In 1990-s Alexander regularly held solo exhibitions at galleries in Soho. Since 1998 his trips to Russia became more frequent. But he returned back to Russia as a completely different artist – Zakharov was no longer a master of provocation and epatage. He walked through the painter’s block since then and got much more mature.
